Aquamation is a water-based alternative to flame cremation, also called alkaline hydrolysis. The pet rests in a stainless steel vessel with water and a gentle alkaline solution; soft tissues dissolve over several hours, leaving only the bones, which are processed into a fine, white ash returned to the family. It uses far less energy than flame cremation and produces no direct emissions, and the returned ash is typically 20–30% greater in volume than flame cremation. See our service comparison.
